Dr Farid Aiouache
Senior LecturerResearch Overview
I have been a Senior Lecturer in Chemical Engineering since November 2012. I hold M.Eng., M.Sc., and PhD degrees in Chemical Engineering from Nagoya University, Japan, where I completed my doctorate in 2003. I am a Chartered Engineer (CEng), a Fellow of the Institution of Chemical Engineers (FIChemE), and a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (SFHEA).
My doctoral research focused on hybrid separation processes and the influence of transport phenomena on reactive distillation. Following my PhD, I worked as a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Nagoya Industrial Science Research Institute, Japan (2003¨C2005). I then joined the oil and gas industry in Calgary, Canada, as a Project Engineer (2005¨C2006), before being appointed as a Lecturer in Chemical Engineering at Queen’s University Belfast (2006¨C2012). In November 2012, I joined my current institution as a Senior Lecturer in Chemical Engineering.
My research focuses on Process Intensification and Reaction Engineering, with an emphasis on developing sustainable, safe, and energy-efficient chemical processes. My research interests include process intensification, reactive and hybrid separation processes, transport phenomena, process integration, intensified reactors, transient operation, dynamic process monitoring and control through in situ sensing, advanced spatio-temporal spectroscopic techniques, functional materials, and energy conversion.
